Headed out to the Valle Blanche today for Rylan, Brian and Liz's first trip up the Aiguille Du Midi, and i had a big surprise for the boys, but we'll talk abotu that in a bit. The weather has been very blustery and a bit of precip has fallen in the valley, but we were surprised to find a bunch of new snow, probably abut 6 inches, all over the Mer de Glace. We were intending to to Grand Envers, but headed to the mellower Vallee Blanche to avoid the more heavily crevassed areas...
There are some ice climbers in this photo, can you find them? theyre really small.
We also played with some new gear, and practiced placing ice screws. What better way to test than with a quick hanging kung fu exhibition?
The next two photos show the cool surprise that i scoped out for Rylan's first day on the Midi, a super fun and exposed Via Ferrata line from the lower viewing deck to the highest. Pretty Fun!
